Pet Insurance Information

i

These days pet insurance can be a life saver. The demand on veterinarians for A+++ treatment is rising, and with that so are the costs that you, the pet owner, may be faced with.

Twenty years ago veterinary surgery and medicine may have been relatively basic, but nowadays we perform chemotherapy on pets with cancer, spinal surgery on dogs with “slipped discs”, etc – the range and quality of our work is paralleling the human medical field.

So, we have increasing treatment options, increasing expectations, and therefore increasing costs. No wonder lot of clients often comment, “I wish there was Medicare for pets”.

While there isn’t Medicare, there is private health insurance.  Insuring your pet’s health will mean you never have to face the sometimes significant financial burden of looking after your pets. Unfortunately, the treatment we can give our pets is sometimes limited by finances. Occasionally animals are euthanaised due to financial constraints, which is a very sad reality.

A lot of clients tell us they will not take out insurance as it is too expensive.  Actually it is not that expensive. Sometimes it is just that the client hasn’t had the chance to investigate pet insurance properly.

There are several companies offering health insurance, and some offer plans for as little as $13 per month.  Likewise, depending on the cover you choose, you can have an excess as low as $100.

In summary, pet insurance means that you can choose the very best veterinary treatment for your pet without ever having to worry about the financial burden of treatment.  We advise all new puppy and kitten owners to insure them as soon as they join your family – and to keep them insured their whole life.
