AHVEC – which stands for After Hours Veterinary Emergency Centre – is Tasmania’s only dedicated after hours & emergency veterinary hospital - owned and operated by Tasmanian veterinarians.
As you are aware after hours and emergency care is currently shared between North Hobart Veterinary Hospital, Hobart Animal Hospital, Tasmanian Animal Hospital and Lindisfarne Veterinary Clinic on a roster basis. When AHVEC opens you will have the reassurance of knowing that there is one place to call, and one place to take your pets where they will be continuously monitored by a veterinary surgeon and qualified nursing staff.
The after hours & emergency service will operate from 6pm week nights until 8am the following morning, and from 1pm Saturday until 8am Monday. This means our phone system will divert to an answering machine after 7pm which will give you the AHVEC mobile number of 0427 025 073.
AHVEC will initially be based at Tasmanian Animal Hospital in Bellerive for the first 6 months of operation. We will organize transport between NHVH and AHVEC for any of our hospitalized patients who may require after hours care, or have been admitted to AHVEC overnight.
AHVEC will only see our patients outside normal clinic hours for emergency treatment. They will not see pets for routine checks or vaccinations.
AHVEC only operates outside normal hours so any calls, both routine and emergency, during business hours go to NHVH. Our opening hours will now be 8am to 7pm weekdays and 9am to 1pm Saturdays.
AHVEC will have dedicatedfacilities to care for hospitalized animals overnight and weekends – currently hospitalized pets are not routinely monitored overnight. Overnight care at AHVEC will be arranged by us in consultation with you, our client.
