AFTER HOURS/EMERGENCY SERVICE
We are very happy to be able to introduce you to an exciting break through in after hours and emergency animal care that is coming to Hobart from 28 November, 2011.
AHVEC – which stands for After Hours Veterinary Emergency Centre – is Tasmania’s only dedicated after hours and emergency veterinary hospital. Owned and operated by Tasmanian veterinarians.
As you are aware after hours and emergency care is currently shared between North Hobart Veterinary Hospital, Hobart Animal Hospital, Tasmanian Animal Hospital and Lindisfarne Veterinary Clinic on a roster basis. When AHVEC opens you will have the reassurance of knowing that there is one place to call, and one place to take your pets where they will be constantly monitored by a veterinary surgeon and qualified nursing staff.
The after hours & emergency service will operate from 6pm week nights until 8am the following morning, and from 1pm Saturday until 8am Monday. This means our phone system will divert to AHVEC after 6pm – by calling our normal number you will hear an answering machine message directing you to call AHVEC on 0427 025 073. NHVH will continue our regular service during our opening hours which will now be 8am to 7pm weekdays and 9am to 1pm Saturdays.
AHVEC will initially be based at Tasmanian Animal Hospital in Bellerive. We will organize transport between NHVH and AHVEC for any of our hospitalized patients who may require after hours care, or have been admitted to AHVEC overnight.
AHVEC will only see our patients outside normal clinic hours for emergency treatment. They will not see pets for routine checks and vaccinations.
AHVEC only operates outside normal hours so any calls, both routine and emergency, during business hours go to NHVH.
AHVEC will have dedicated facilities to care for hospitalized animals overnight and weekends. The treatment for your pet will be arranged by your vet with the Emergency team to give better continuous care for our valued patients. Any such care will be organized by us in consultation with you, our client.
